GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas (March 12, 2014) -  Harbor House Hotel and Marina, Galveston’s only harbor view hotel, reopened on Feb. 28 following a $1.7 million renovation with a bold new look and modern appointments. The hotel’s 42 guest rooms now offer an industrial yet warm feel with all new furniture, lighting, bedding, flooring, and bathrooms.

As guests enter the new lobby, they are warmly greeted by a check-in desk made of mahogany and backlit honeycomb onyx, as well as a new SoCo lighting above the desk featuring a socket and cord system with vintage Thomas Edison bulbs.

The hotel has been renovated to offer three different visually stunning room types each with their own paint motif. Suites, or “The Captain’s Quarters,” offer a King size bed, living area painted in a neutral palette with a sleeper sofa, dining area for four and striking orange accent wall in the bedroom. King rooms, or “The Admiral,” offer expansive rooms with a king size bed with a green accent wall, while “The Skipper” rooms feature double queen size beds and a charcoal accent wall. Both king and double queen rooms offer a sizeable sitting area.

All rooms feature fully renovated bathrooms which are now flooded with light from a frosted glass wall.  Bathrooms feature modern amenities including, custom designed floating vanities, semi-mount vessels, wall mounted faucets, and most with walk-in showers. A special feature in each guest room is the custom built-in four-in-one cabinet, which includes a refrigerator, microwave, desk, and dresser.

“We are excited about the renovations at Harbor House,” says Complex General Manager Steve Cunningham. “Harbor House is already hugely popular and this renovation gives the hotel a modern and industrial feel which complements its location on the harbor.”

All rooms have a 46” LED flat screen television, custom upholstered bedding system by SK textiles, custom headboards, and Simmons® Pillow Top Mattresses.  The new 300 thread count luxurious linens are also from SK textiles, and modern window shades by the Shade Store. As part of the renovation, the hotel laid 40,000 square feet of new tile throughout the 42-room hotel.

The rooms feature nautical themed photography printed on aluminum by Kayla Mitchell.  She captured images from Galveston Island to create one-of-a-kind pieces that are unique to the hotel.  The redesign of the property was under the direction of Lori Mitchell, design director for Mitchell Historic Properties.

Guest corridors are covered in a flooring system by Chilewich, laid in a custom tonal stripe, creating interest in both color and texture as guests enter their room.

Chris Arneson of Building Solutions, a local Galveston contractor was enlisted for the project as well as Custom Millwork by Wood Solutions.

Other interior design items to note are the Mitchell Gold +Bob Williams chairs and sleepers, Made Goods nightstands and lamps, Vitra Verner Panton chairs, and George Kovacs® lighting.  Accent wall colors are Benjamin Moore’s Fire Dance, Caldwell Green and Kendall Charcoal.  Benjamin Moore White Dove and Northern Cliffs were used elsewhere.

Harbor House, which opened in 1993, is located at Pier 21. All guest rooms offer a view of the port, a seating area, refrigerator, microwave, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel also offers a complimentary Continental breakfast and signing privileges at the Hotel Galvez & Spa® and The Tremont House, both Wyndham Grand® Hotels.
