“Set amongst the beautiful magnolias and live oaks in Lafayette Square, the Hamilton-Turner Inn is a beautiful bed and breakfast that is sure to sweep you off your feet with its luxurious accommodations, gourmet treats and attentive services that are designed to pamper guests,” said Sid Evans, Editor in Chief of Southern Living. “In a city known for its history and grace, the Hamilton-Turner Inn is the best-of-the-best when it comes to providing a wonderful experience. We are proud to welcome the Inn to our growing Collection,” adds Evans.
The Hamilton-Turner Inn is a AAA Four Diamond hotel situated in the heart of Savannah’s historic district. It is within steps of quaint shops, beautiful parks and romantic dining spots. Each morning guests will enjoy a hearty southern-style breakfast, followed by afternoon sweets and nightly wine and hors d’oeuvres served in the Parlor.
The mansion is rich with Savannah history. In 1883 the elegantly appointed home became the first residence in Savannah to have electricity when lights were installed in the salon and spectators gathered to witness the inaugural room lighting. In 1915 the home was purchased by Dr. Francis Turner whose family owned the home until 1965 when it was sold to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The church wanted to replace the structure with a playground but the Historic Savannah Foundation intervened to save the house. Over the next 30 years, the Hamilton-Turner house had several owners, was converted into an apartment building and even withstood scandal. John Berendt’s book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil made note of raucous parties thrown by Joe Odom, who at one time managed the property. In 1997 the Hamilton-Turner mansion was transformed into an Inn and has since been lovingly restored and maintained in its historic splendor.
The Hamilton-Turner Inn is located in the heart of Savannah at 303 Abercorn Street. It is easily accessed from I-95 via I-16 and is a short drive to the beaches of Tybee Island, GA and Hilton Head Island, SC.
